For all of Glenn Maxwell’s mercurial abilities, it is still surprising he only has two one-day international centuries to his name even considering how often he bats in the lower middle order.
It is a tally no one could have predicted when he was so consistently frightening at the 2015 World Cup — the tournament where he notched his maiden ODI ton, an event at which he averaged 64.8 with a strike rate of 182.02.
The following January he would be crowned Australia’s ODI player of the year. The world was his oyster and as long as he maintained the rage no total would be out of Australia’s reach. There were signs Australia had unearthed something special in 2012 when he was first called up and the past year had confirmed just that.
