Man burnt, roof collapsed after early morning apartment inferno

An overheated battery in a freezer may be to blame for an early-morning blaze which collapse a roof and destroyed a unit on the Gold Coast.

It took six fire crews to battle the inferno after the three-storey complex on Worendo Street in Southport went up in flames, leaving a resident suffering minor burns.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at 5.50am (4.50am AEDT) today.
